Humboldt High School graduates 92 seniors

Kylie Burmeister (left) and Autumn Hauser (right) were named the Valedictorian and Salutatorian, respectively at last Sunday's high school commencement exercises at Humboldt High School.

Kylie Burmeister was named Valedictorian of the Humboldt High School graduating Class of 2016 at commencement ceremonies held Sunday afternoon, May 22, in the high school gymnasium. The Salutatorian honor went to Autumn Hauser. Kendra Beaman, Tony Nielsen and Phillip Runia were awarded the Marvyl Friesth Award.
The Marvyl Friesth Award originated over 65 years ago following a tragic accident in which a student passed away. Because the classmates of Marvyl Friesth felt so strongly about the high caliber of living and participation exemplified by this young woman, they initiated what has become an annual award to the top senior boy and girl.
This award is based on scholarship, character, sportsmanship, and leadership. The faculty nominates by ballot, and the senior class votes for the top senior boy and girl. Their names will be added to this plaque, which is normally located in the high school cafeteria as a standard of excellence for all future Humboldt High School students to follow.
Silver Cord Award recognition: Kendra Beaman, Autumn Hauser, Carly Naeve, and Mason Wickett.
