A dream five years in the making is coming to fruition this week, thanks to some hard work by dedicated volunteers, but most of all thanks to the contributions of a caring community to honor its veterans.
On Saturday, members of the public in the town of Bode and the surrounding communities are invited to a public dedication of the Bode Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of 7th Street and Humboldt Avenue. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., with a lunch and social time to follow at the Bode Community Center.
A small group of volunteers decided that the northern Humboldt County community was a good location for a memorial to honor its veterans.
"It's long overdue," Garry Kraft, a member of the project committee, said. Read more about this and other stories in this week's Humboldt Independent. Subscribe by clicking on the link at the top of the page.
