Susie McEntire to perform in Humboldt Aug. 13

Inspirational country music artist Susie McEntire will be performing a concert in Humboldt to benefit the Kiddie Cats Learning Center project.
McEntire, sister of country superstar Reba McEntire, will perform on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. on Aug. 13, at the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium at Humboldt High School.
Prior to the concert, a barbeque meal catered by Vinny’s BBQ will be served in the high school cafeteria. The meal, served by the Humboldt-Dakota City Chamber of Commerce, includes pulled pork sandwiches, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, cookies or bars and a refreshment.
Tickets are $20 each, which includes dinner and the concert, plus a Silent Auction number. A Silent Auction will be held in the auditorium lobby starting at 5 p.m. Those wishing to donate items for the Silent Auction are asked to take them to Humboldt City Hall. Contact person is Jenna Mulford, Administrative Director of the Humboldt-Dakota City Chamber of Commerce (515) 332-1481, or email chamber@hdcchamber.com.
Tickets for the concert and meal are available in advance at Hy-Vee, Humboldt Engraving and Gifts and First State Bank. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The day’s events actually get started much earlier with a Vendor Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new Humboldt Middle School cafeteria. More than 30 vendors are expected.
A fund drive is underway to help build the new Kiddie Cats Daycare Center. Plans call for the daycare to be built on the north side of Mease Elementary School in Dakota City. The fundraising goal is $1.5 million. Daycare is a critical need in the community at the current time.
“We’ve had really good response so far. Susie McEntire is just awesome. She enjoys coming to Humboldt and will provide a terrific show,” Stalpes said.
With more than a passing physical resemblance to her sister, Reba McEntire, Susie also shares her big sister’s musical giftings. But Susie has directed her talents to the country gospel side of American Roots music, garnering much acclaim from her peers and fans alike.
In addition to numerous awards and nominations from TNN, GMA, and CCMA, Susie has been named “Artist of the Year” several times in the field of Positive Country Music. She has also scored four #1 singles on the Positive Country radio charts.
Raised on an Oklahoma ranch, Susie began singing as a teenager with her siblings, Pake and Reba, as the “Singing McEntires.” In 1980, after graduating from Oklahoma State University, Susie was again singing with her sister who by this time had become a country superstar. In addition to performing for sold-out crowds, they made television appearances together on programs such as ‘The Johnny Carson Show,” “Hee-Haw,” and “The Grand Ole Opry.”
“I learned so much in this short period of time. Little did I know that this travel time with Reba would help to prepare me for my own solo career in music,” Susie said.
She is co-host of “Cowboy Church” on RFDtv.
Susie’s husband, Mark, is an inspirational speaker and joins her on stage to say a few words.
“He brings a depth and insight that is so refreshing and freeing. It absolutely fascinates me to witness the reaction I see on the faces of our audiences as they respond and connect with the heart of what Mark brings with just a few words,” Susie said.
Susie has recently signed on to be a spokesperson for the Community Learning Council, Inc. based in Oklahoma City, OK. It is a non-profit organization that focuses on education to help prevent and stop domestic violence.
