Humboldt cross country teams qualify for state!!

Runner-up finishes by both the Humboldt girls and boys cross country teams Thursday (Oct. 20) in a Class 3A state qualifying meet in Spencer propelled the Wildcats to the state meet. The Wildcat girls finished with 62 points to secure another trip to the state meet, to be held Oct. 29 in Fort Dodge. The Wildcat girls were eight points behind first-place Bishop Heelan (54) and five ahead of third-place Spencer (67). The top three teams and top 15 individuals advance to state.

Freshman sensation Bryce Gidel paced the Humboldt girls with another first-place finish, running the course in 18:50. Defending state runner-up Kourtney Delperdang of Spirit Lake was runner-up in 19:16. Gabby Kent of Humboldt was fourth in 19:30 and Isabella Luu ran seventh in 19:42 for Humboldt.

Humboldt's boys just missed out on the team title as they finished with 77 points, one shy of first-place Sergeant Bluff-Luton (76). Bishop Heelan was third with 105. Joe Kunert led Humboldt's effort on the day by placing seventh in 16:51. Ryan Courtney ran 11th in 16:59 and Denny Pederson was 12th in 17:00.

The state meet will be held on the Lakeside Golf Course at Kennedy Park north of Fort Dodge with the 3A races starting at 12 noon.
