There may not be a doctor in the house, but there is one on the Humboldt City Council.
Retired Humboldt optometrist Kirk Whittlesey was sworn in Monday night as Humboldt’s newest City Council member. Whittlesey succeeds Darrell Rusher, who resigned last month after serving the better part of the past two decades.
Whittlesey will be filling an at-large Council seat, serving the remainder of Rusher’s four-year term, through 2017.
Whittlesey ended a 41-year optometry practice in 2015, working with his father, Dr. Don Whittlesey for several years, before operating the eye clinic himself from 1987 to 2015.
