Dresser's Virginia Tech squad ranked No. 7 nationally

For the second time in three seasons, the Virginia Tech University wrestling team ended the regular season ranked among the top 10 nationally in the final USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll.
The Hokies, coached by Humboldt native Kevin Dresser, finished the regular season with a 16-3 dual record, 5-0 and first in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Tech finished sixth in 2010-2011. Virginia Tech has also finished in the top 25 each of the past five seasons, the first time in program history that has happened.
This season the Hokies had eight wins over top-25 teams: Wisconsin, Virginia (twice), Edinboro (twice), Oklahoma (twice) and Oregon State when it was ranked ninth.
“Another top 10 ranking helps us achieve consistency and consistency is one of our main goals,” Dresser said. “We feel the dual meet portion of our sport is very important, but now we have to match that consistency as a dual meet team with some great individual performances at the ACC Championships and then at the NCAA Championships.”
Tech will head to College Park, Maryland, this week for the ACC championships to be held Saturday, Mar. 9. The Hokies will look to qualify all 10 starters for the NCAA championships, which will be held Mar. 21-23 in Des Moines.
