HHS girls stun No. 1 LeMars, 3-2
Humboldt advanced to within one game of the state softball tournament by upsetting No. 1 ranked and unbeaten LeMars, 3-2 Saturday night (July 13) in LeMars. The victory sent Humboldt into a regional final on Tuesday (July 16) against Denison-Schleswig at Fort Dodge at 7 p.m. Denison-Schleswig defeated Bishop Heelan of Sioux City, 8-7. The regional final was originally slated for LeMars.
The Wildcats scored one run on LeMars in the first inning and added two in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. LeMars scored one in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but stranded runners in both innings as Humboldt held off the late rally.
The victory improved Humboldt's season record to 22-9. LeMars, which had 20 shutout victories this season, dropped to 30-1 as their season came to an end.
HUMBOLDT GIRLS DOWN SPENCER IN 4A REGIONAL OPENER, 6-1
Sam Kirby homered twice, Humboldt banged out 10 hits and played flawless defense to down Spencer, 6-1 Thursday night (July 11) in a Class 4A regional softball tournament opener in Humboldt. Avery Terwilliger pitched a 3-hitter for the Wildcats, who improved their record to 21-9. Humboldt will now travel to LeMars on Saturday for a 7 p.m. semifinal round matchup.
HUMBOLDT 3, CLEAR LAKE 1
Humboldt's varsity softball team ended their regular season Monday night (July 8) on the road at Clear Lake by posting a 3-1 victory in eight innings. Avery Terwilliger pitched a 7-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Samantha Kirby made three hits to lead Humboldt's 10-hit attack. The Wildcats are now 20-9 overall, 11-6 in the NCC.
HUMBOLDT 6, ALGONA 3
Humboldt scored four runs in the sixth inning, three with two out, to rally past Algona, 6-3 Friday night (July 5) in North Central Conference softball in Humboldt.
Avery Terwilliger had 3 hits while Courtney Benjamin and Sarah Peters both had two apiece to lead the Wildcats. Terwilliger earned the win pitching.
HUMBOLDT 7, GARRIGAN 6
Avery Terwilliger scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Kenzie Shelgren to edge Bishop Garrigan of Algona, 7-6 Wednesday night (July 3) in Humboldt.
HUMBOLFT 14, EMMETSBURG 8
Humboldt snapped a 7-7 tie with five runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 14-8 victory at Emmetsburg on July 2 in non-conference softball. Humboldt pounded the E-Hawks for 17 hits as Avery Terwilliger went 4-for-4. Sarah Peters homered. Anna Tecklenburg scattered 10 hits pitching for Humboldt, which improved to 17-9 overall on the season.
