Humboldt boys top Algona, girls fall
ALGONA - Humboldt divided a pair of North Central Conference basketball games at Algona Tuesday night (Dec. 18). The Wildcat girls fell to the Bulldogs 51-31 in the opener. Humboldt's boys, meanwhile, kept up their winning ways with a 63-51 triumph. A 12-2 run in the fourth quarter keyed the Wildcat victory. Jaxon Heinz and Michael Orness each scored 23 points to lead Humboldt. Kinzie Wright scored 11 to pace the Wildcat girls.
Humboldt's boys are now 5-2 overall on the season, 4-2 in the NCC. The Wildcat girls are 3-5 overall, 2-5 in NCC play. Humboldt continues its schedule at home Friday night (Dec. 21) when they play host to Webster City in their final game before the Christmas break.
HHS GIRLS, BOYS SWEEP CLARION-GOLDFIELD
HUMBOLDT – Humboldt swept Clarion-Goldfield in a girl-boy conference doubleheader in the Wildcat gym Friday night (Dec. 14). The Wildcat girls pulled out a 36-34 triumph while the boys posted a 63-40 victory.
The Wildcat girls were led in scoring by Erica Lane and Lauren Friesth with 11 each. Lane sank the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds left on the clock to lift the Wildcats. Kessa Kuyper had eight, Maddie Thomas four and Karlee Peyton and April Jones each had 1 for Humboldt.
Michael Orness scored 14 points and Jaxon Heinz added 10 to lead the Wildcat boys past the Cowboys. Bryan Larson had seven, Jaylen Heinz six and Brady Ross six. Jack Curran made five while Ben Madison, Ben Jacobson and Matt Pogge each had four. Nick Heider had three.
