Humboldt girls topple Algona in triple overtime, 53-51
Maggy Duffield scored a basket just before the buzzer to lift the Humboldt girls basketball team past Algona, 53-51 in triple overtime in the Humboldt gym on Feb. 4.
Kessa Kuyper scored 16 points, Lauren Friesth 15 and Maddie Thomas eight to lead the Wildcats. Avery Terwilliger added five, Duffield four, Sarah Peters 3 and Abbey Gargano 2. Abby Strohman scored 17 and Lacey Seeley 16 to lead Algona.
Kuyper made two free throws to tie the game at 34-34 to force the first overtime. She scored again to force a second overtime and Thomas made a bank shot to send the game into a third overtime.
The Wildcats, now 9-8 overall, 9-6 in the NCC, travel to Webster City on Friday, Feb. 7, for another NCC contest. HHS will host Iowa Falls-Alden on Feb. 11 in the middle school gym in a JV-varsity doubleheader.
