Mini ice storm causes accidents
The Humboldt Police Department (HPD) has investigated several accidents during the past week.
Slick road conditions on Sunday and Monday may have contributed to some of the accidents, police believe.
The most recent accident reported occurred Monday, Jan. 28, at 5:44 p.m. The accident occurred on Highway 169 (13th Street) and 7th Avenue North.
According to the report, a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Cassandra K. Meier, 19, Humboldt, was northbound in the outside lane of Highway 169.
A 2007 Ford 500 driven by Katelyn A. Collins, 24, Fort Dodge, was southbound on Highway 169, waiting to turn east onto 7th Avenue North.
A third non-contact vehicle was also northbound on Highway 169, waiting to turn west onto 7th Avenue North.
The non-contact vehicle temporarily obstructed Collins’ view, causing her to turn into the vehicle Meier was driving.
Neither driver was injured.
Collins was charged with failure to yield upon making a left turn.
There was an estimated $3,000 functional damage to the front end of the Chevrolet pickup, and an estimated $5,000 disabling damage to the right front fender and grill of the Ford 500.
