The auction for real estate at the southeast edge of Dakota City went well on Dec. 1, with nine of the 13 lots selling, according to owner Gary Vinsand of Gilmore City.
The purchase prices varied from $12,000 to $27,500. All but the four smallest lots at the southeast edge of the development were sold.
“We were very pleased with the bids and the interest shown,” Vinsand said.
The 14.1-acre Dakota Heights Addition has been planned for by the Dakota City Council for the better part of the past year. The city conducted surveying and platting and rezoning of the property to provide for new residential development, hiring Schlotfeldt Engineering of Webster City to do the work. Mayor Don Faltinson and one or two members of the city council are expected to meet with Wayne Schlotfeldt next week, to discuss plans for infrastructure improvements to the site. The council is hopeful of moving quickly on getting bids for the work and getting going when spring arrives.
Vinsand himself has been busy working on the properties, clearing brush and any debris from the area this past fall.
“All of the buyers were local people and some of them indicated they are purchasing the properties to build retirement homes,” Vinsand said.
