The OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe, a program of Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc., took to the road in north central Iowa this past week, performing Monday in Algona and Humboldt.
The group performed John Davies’ The Three Little Pigs, a telling of the classic fairy tale through the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Prior to the 2 p.m. performance at the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium, the troupe of five singers and a piano accompanist, conducted workshops at the Humboldt Elementary Schools.
Humboldt pre-school through fourth graders from Mease and Taft enjoyed the performance, along with students from the Twin Rivers Elementary School in Bode.
“We truly enjoy it and the students enjoy the productions,” said Greg Jebaily, who plays Don Giovanni, one of the three pigs in the play.
“We want to get them actively involved in singing and show them a little of what goes into making an opera,” said Brad Baron who plays Wolfgang Big Bad, a play on Mozart’s first name.
This operatic version of the classic childhood favorite tells the tale of two sassy pigs and their older and wiser sister. The Three Little Pigs lasts 40 minutes.
