Humboldt's wrestling team capped a perfect regular season dual schedule by whipping Eagle Grove, 70-12 in a North Central Conference dual at Eagle Grove Thursday night (Jan. 24).
The Wildcats got victories from Austin Meier (forfeit) at 106, Kylie Zender (pin) at 113, Chris Witzke (forfeit) at 120, Jacob Miller (forfeit) at 126, Mike Madsen (forfeit) at 132, Collin Flick (pin) at 138, Tyler Rutz (forfeit) at 160, Adam Mickelson (forfeit) at 170, Colby Miller (forfeit) at 182, Nikko Wheeler (forfeit) at 195, Cordes Olthoff (major decision, 12-1) at 220 and Dylan Hendricks (2:18 pin) at 285.
The Wildcats finish 22-0 overall, 8-0 in the NCC, their best season finish in school history. Humboldt will compete in the Guthrie Center Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 26, and prepare for the Class 2A sectional tournament on Feb. 2 at Cherokee. The top two finishers at each weight class at Cherokee advance to a district at Spencer on Feb. 9. The traditional state tournament is Feb. 14-16 in Des Moines. In addition, the top two team finishers in the sectional advance to a regional dual on Feb. 5. Humboldt will host a regional dual on Feb. 5. The state dual team tournament is Feb. 13 in Des Moines.
