During the Monday, Feb. 4, Humboldt City Council meeting, the council approved a change order of $44,100 with Chicago Bridge and Iron of Plainfield, IL, contractors for construction of the 500,000-gallon water tower project.
The change order is for insulation of the existing tank, new tank base bells and a time extension on the completion from July 15, to Sept. 1.
Burnett explained that the insulated storage areas being installed in both water towers are to allow equipment and controls. The new tower had height restrictions that would not permit controls above the tower.
“If we were to lose the use of the water department building on 8th Street South, we could store meters and other equipment in the water towers. There will be walk-through door access on both towers,” Burnett said.
While the completion date is moved up, the new water tower should be functional and in operation by mid-July, Burnett said.
The council also approved pay estimate No. 4, in the amount of $95,693.12 to Chicago Bridge and Iron for work completed on the new tower.
With the change order additions, the revised contract price for the new tower and improvements to the existing tower is $1,270,000.
