The school calendar is now in place for the Gilmore City-Bradgate School District for the 2013-14 school year.
During their regular monthly meeting last week (April 16) in West Bend, the GC-B Board of Education gave its final approval to the school calendar. Earlier in the evening, the GC-B board discussed the calendar resolution with the West Bend-Mallard School Board during a joint meeting of the two boards.
During the joint meeting, the two boards discussed rationale for starting school prior to Sept. 1. Among those include the opportunity to end the first semester before Christmas break. Other reasons involve aligning college credit classes at the high school level with colleges and universities, in which classes begin in August and end in December. Also, mid-term high school graduates who finish in December have the option to begin college classes in January.
The first day of school will be Aug. 22. The projected last day of school is May 23.
After the joint meeting, the GC-B Board met and discussed the process of hiring a part-time superintendent for 2013-14. The board will have a work session on Wednesday, May 8, to review applications for the position.
