Due to the amount of hours and commitments of the job, the city of Humboldt is deciding to dissolve the joint position of Chamber of Commerce director and city recreation director.
That decision was among the many items acted upon at Monday night’s Humboldt City Council meeting.
Two years ago, it was decided to combine the positions into two part-time positions, with the Chamber paying for half of the salary.
Susan Rutz was hired at the time to fill the position.
“She has done a great job over the past two years and is very hands-on and has added stability to the Chamber, but the job as it is structured is such that there are so many demands on her time, it was going from a 40-hour a week position to well over that,” City Administrator Aaron Burnett said.
“After discussions with the Chamber of Commerce Board and the Park Board, it was agreed that a separation of the duties was the best.
The city will advertise for a part-time administrative assistant position for the Chamber. Rutz will stay on as city recreation director and the city will take on the full responsibility for her salary.
